A purely academic specialty with no water dives required. The SSI Science of Diving specialty provides a thorough, university-level understanding of the science that underpins everything that happens underwater — physics, physiology, decompression theory, the aquatic environment, and diving equipment. It is a mandatory requirement for the SSI Divemaster rating and most SSI professional programmes. Available entirely online, it can be completed at home and forms a powerful theoretical foundation for anyone serious about their dive education. Prerequisite: Open Water Diver.
